Dr. Burlingame was one of the first peer trainers certified to teach other physicians the technique of laser refractive surgery. A graduate of the University of Texas Health Science Center, he is board certified in ophthalmology and is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons.
Reflecting the respect he has earned among his peers, Dr. Burlingame has served as chief of surgery and medical ethics committee chairman, as well as other leadership positions, at several Texoma hospitals. He has published several articles on advanced surgical techniques and has been a guest lecturer at several ophthalmic surgical conferences and symposiums.
Dr. Burlingame has a rich experience in refractive and cataract surgery. He was part of Summit Laser’s “Visionary Program” in 1994 and completed this certification program pre-FDA approval therefore becoming one of the first ophthalmic surgeons in the U.S. to receive this training.
His surgical expertise and experience is evidenced in articles that appeared in Review of Ophthalmology and Ocular Surgery News. He is a past Board of Directors member for the national organization of Ophthalmic Outpatient Surgical Society.
Dr. Burlingame presently holds staff privileges at WNJ Medical Center. He also owns his own surgery center, North Travis Ambulatory Surgery Center, located in Sherman Texas. It is the only facility in the north Texas / Southern Oklahoma area dedicated solely to eye surgery.
Born in Corpus Christi and raised in Bay City, Texas, Dr. Burlingame entered college at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas in 1976. He received his Bachelor of Science from Southwest Texas State in 1979, after which he pursued his dream of Medical School at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Dallas, where he graduated in June of 1983. He completed his Medical Internship in July of 1984 at Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas. The next three years were dedicated to a Residency in Ophthalmology at Scott & White that was completed in June of 1987. He opened his Sherman, Texas office in July of 1987. His dedication and directive is to persistently examine, challenge and improve the entire ophthalmologic process to elevate the patient experience and to provide optimum clinical results.
Family and a strong sense of community have always been important to Dr. Burlingame; and his Christian faith is evident in the care patients receive from him and his carefully chosen staff.
Dr. “B” – as he is affectionately called – believes strongly in contributing to charitible organizations throughout the Sherman – Denison and Texoma region.
Dr. Burlingame and his wife, Lisa live in Sherman, Texas and actively pursue interests in hunting, fishing and gardening. They have a daughter, a son and daughter-in-law currently attending Wheaton College in Illinois.
