About Dry Eye Syndrome - RGB Eye Associates; Sherman, TX
Tears aren't just for crying and laughing. Eye moisture is critical for eye comfort, for good vision and to protect the eye from infection.
If you have itching, burning, red or "gritty" feeling eyes; have trouble wearing contact lenses; have blurry or fluctuating vision; or your eyes quickly get tired when reading, you may be suffering from dry eye syndrome, caused by your body not making sufficient tears for your eyes.
It is very important to treat dry eye syndrome because without sufficient moisture, the health and function of the cornea is at serious risk.
Dry eye syndrome is a common condition we see in our Sherman, Texas practice and it is not uncommon in the entire Texomaland region.
Causes of dry eye include wearing contact lenses, prolonged reading or computer work, hormone changes, allergies, auto-immune disease, eye surgery, eye infections, dry environments, exposure to smoke or chemicals, and drugs such as oral antihistamines, anti-depressants or hormone replacement therapy. Aging is also a factor.
There are a number of ways to treat this condition, but first your eye doctor must be willing to take the time to determine the cause of your dry eye syndrome -- because the proper treatment depends on the cause of the condition.
If you are suffering from any of the dry eye symptoms above, please call RGB eye doctors for more information or to make an appointment today: 903.892.3282
