Eyelid Surgery - also known as Blepharoplasty or Eyelift surgery is commonly considered a cosmetic or plastic surgery. However, many eyelifts are performed for medically necessary reasons such as vision impairment caused by drooping upper lids, protrusion of the lower lids, or eyelash interference in the line of vision.

Types of Eyelid Surgeries
Blepharoplasty / Eye Lifts may include surgery on the upper eyelids, surgery on the lower lids or both.
An upper blepharoplasty or upper eyelid surgery involves removing excess skin and fat from the upper lid. The procedure is performed by the eye surgeon making a thin incision along the patient's natural eye crease, leaving a nearly invisible scar that almost completely blends in to the eye's natural line. Some swelling and bruising of the area is natural, but usually heals within about two weeks, depending on the patient and the extent of the surgery. End results include a younger, brighter, more open-eyed and rejuvenated look, restoring the eyes to their younger appearance. If vision was narrowed or impaired by drooping or overhanging lids, this problem will be corrected.
A lower blepharoplasty is intended to tighten drooping lower lids and remove puffy bags. It also corrects and tightens "crepey" bumpy or wrinkled skin below the eyes. A more youthful, brightened, refreshed and rejuvenated appearance is the common result.
Whether done for vision improvement or cosmetic reasons, an eyelid lift often lifts the spirits of eyelid surgery patients.
